Gorgeous Aramatai Gardens near Waitomo

35 minutes from Waitomo Caves and Hairy Feet, Aramatai Gardens sits within a valley planted with various exotic and native plants - weeping trees, rhododendrons, camellias, roses, perennials, irises, and lilies. The gardens feature two large natural ponds, a vegetable garden, fruit and nut orchard, extensive lawns, and walkways, and there’s a lovely waterfall half an hour walk across the farmland. With five acres of gardens to run around and explore, Aramatai Gardens is a great location for a tranquil family getaway. You are welcome to stay in a non-self contained vehicle or tent.

Beachside in the West Coast

This serene private site in Cameron has amazing views of Mount Cook and is surrounded by five acres of native bush. It’s just one minute walk between the campsite and the beach, and twenty minutes along the beach to the Taramakau River or New River. Look for greenstone, hike in the bush, visit the replica historic village Shanty Town, pan for gold, fish in the rivers for trout, salmon or whitebait, or surf cast off the beach! The property is just 400m off the West Coast cycle trail, fifteen minutes from Greymouth and twenty minutes from Hokitika.

This working eco-farm in Blue Spur is completely off-grid, running on solar power and just ten minutes from Hokitika township. Perfect for a family holiday, there are friendly free ranging kune kune pigs, goats, and a flock of coloured sheep as well as our cows, peacocks and turkeys. Directly behind the farm is the site of an old goldmine dating back to the late 1800's which you can explore, and the Arahura River (an important source of pounamu) is closeby if you want to search for your own piece of jade.
